A model of transformation shift (TSM): steps & processes

The events in 2020 have left many of us wondering whether we want to continue living our lives in the same way. The answer to that question is, in many cases, 'no'. Usually immediately followed by the remark 'but how? How would it be if we used the events of 2020, and those before, to achieve transformation? That would be nice, wouldn't it? The truth is, this is something you can really achieve.
It’s the silver lining everybody is talking about.
I started working on this myself way before 2020. Because of that, when everything went crazy, I was still able to keep moving. I fell forward. I failed forward. If you want to look at your life moving forwards, take a look back.
My name is Ron van Helvoirt, I’m the director of Zahron Coaching & Training. For a long time, I have been fascinated by people, who reap insight by thinking deeply about their experiences. People who can, from rest and reflection, effortlessly let go and live in FLOW. Within Zahron we have coaching program for both individuals and teams as well as for highly gifted people. From executive coaching to team coaching and business coaching. Within Zahron, we have developed a program (Transformational Shift Model - TSM) to achieve lasting transformation. You can choose to follow the whole program, but there is as well a possibility to follow only separate elements. Both as an individual or as a team.
And I’m very happy to be able to do that for my clients, startups, businesses, and colleges and universities.
The 4 step transformational shift model
It all starts with an intake interview. During this conversation we determine whether there is a click between you and me. This is important for the course of the process. I am there for YOU. You have to feel comfortable with this. Finally, we are going to work together for a while. I have been an (executive) coach and an expert in giftedness for over 20 years. Many good and less good books have been written about giftedness. Now, together with my experience, I have put together a model (TSM) that consists of 4 steps. The model doesn’t mean (executive) coaching is a linear process, because in actual fact, (executive) coaching is a deeply human process. And that means it is iterative, repetitive, and sometimes you fall back into earlier stages.
Step 1: Me
Obstacles or barriers that prevent (gifted) people from using their talents to the full.
- Not knowing how to deal with mistakes (fear of failure);
- Strong emotions;
- Difficulty leaving their comfort zone;
- (Too) empty toolbox (things like planning, structuring, meeting techniques, summarizing: things that are not directly related to knowledge/content (executive functions));
- Seeing yourself as the norm (too high demands on yourself/environment);
- Recognizing that achieving something takes time;
- Communication (over-communication: too fast, too direct, too early, too late, too complex, etc.). Can be hurtful to those around him because the emphasis is often on content and facts;
- Social interaction;
- Being different.
Introspection can be used to recognize that your behavior in a certain situation was not appropriate and to make the wish to change this behavior in future. You hold a mirror up to yourself, in a manner of speaking.
Changing obstructing beliefs: Changing limiting beliefs and becoming aware of your limiting beliefs. Understand that this belief was once good for you. Now the change can happen.
Working with Dynamic Judgement makes you aware of your primary reactions and the underlying (pre-)judgements and feelings. By asking yourself questions, you are objectifying your primary reactions into clear conclusions and realistic decisions. This gives you inner peace, room for inspiration and renewed insights.
What makes it difficult for you to expand your comfort zone? Outside your comfort zone lies a so-called learning zone. In this learning zone, you experience a certain amount of tension. A tension which you can handle and know how to deal with. Outside your learning zone lies the non-safety zone. By going outside your comfort zone and enlarge it, you will gain more self-confidence.
Step 2: The other
Becoming aware of your assumptions makes a difference. 95% of our behavior is controlled by our unconsciousness. Only when you are aware of your unconscious assumptions can you effectively change your behavior.
Step 3: Qi-field
The field between me and the other.
The purpose of building up the Qi Field is to reach the right state of consciousness. The effect of realizing the Qi field is spatial, clear, connected, open, peaceful and respectful. You can use it for any task or undertaking that you would like to do well. You are fully in the process.
Step 4: Insights
Good coaching encourages self-observation and helps you to come to insights more quickly. It is important to also do something with the insights. Practicing and reflecting on this is step 4 of the model.
